Mission and Programs

Mission

The Memoria Project exists to erect a stone sculpture memorial in honor of ALL victims and survivors of September 11th, and to include community residents and surviving family members in the creation process and educational opportunities.

Programs

In early 2002, community members from Monmouth County, NJ (which lost 146 persons in the terrorist attacks) formed a non-profit corporation to oversee the creation of a commemorative stone sculpture. The process of the sculpture was made accessible to the public on Sandy Hook, Gateway National Recreational Area.

From June through August, opportunities for participation and enrichment were offered through many, varied educational events held on-site. The two 13-foot marble statues which form the memorial's centerpiece were carved from June 6 to July 25. They are now finished and on display at Veteran's Memorial Park in Highlands, NJ.

The second phase of the project, which involves the engraving of all victims' names onto five large granite boulders is currently taking place at an advanced stone facility in Vermont.

The Memoria Project is currently working with local, state and federal entities to complete the erection and installation of the memorial in Highlands, NJ.

Balance Sheet: Fiscal Year Ending December 31, 2007

Notes
The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot long survive, but the types of assets and liabilities also must be considered. For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue, current year loan and note payments). Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
