Our mission is to match the giving capacity of individuals and others in the private sector to the financial and material needs of public schools and other deserving entities. We will accomplish this by providing a world class catalog of supplies to teachers and administrators of public schools, provide the means by which they can select the items they need for their classrooms, provide an easy to navigate path for parents and concerned individuals to find those requirements, provide the secure eCommerce capabilities to allow the tax deductible funding and purchase of items to fill those requirements, and ensure delivery of those items directly to the teacher, classroom or school. Our goal is to build an infrastructure where the private sector can directly fund true needs in the classroom.
We provide the following in fulfillment of our mission:
An on-line catalog populated with classroom supplies
A user interface for teachers, administrators and advisors to build their Wishlists
A user interface for parents to find their child?s School, Teacher and Classroom and identify the items from that Wishlist they would like to donate toward. The parent sees exactly what the teacher has determined they need, decides if the offered price is competitive, and chooses the amount they want to spend or the product they want to buy. We deliver that item to the classroom.
A secure transaction capability
Order fulfillment delivery to the teacher
The situation in today?s classrooms is disheartening at best. Teachers work in under-funded schools with inadequate resources. They attempt to provide our children with the educational foundation required for our children to carry on as the world?s scientific and industrial leaders of tomorrow. In support of this objective, they often use their personal monies to buy simple items such as paper, pencils, and folders that most of us assume are in abundant supply, but that in reality are precious commodities that are too often beyond the reach of current funding. Those of us with children in the public school system are all too familiar with requests from teachers for donations to ensure that individual classroom needs are met.
The problem in meeting these needs, however, is that school district policies or state and federal laws often prevent financial donations from being directed to specific classrooms or schools. What is more, the resources available to a caring individual or organization often cannot easily be directly translated into the supplies needed by the school or classroom, or they are simply unaware of the actual needs that exist and how they can contribute. Busy parents with financial means may be willing to donate, but are unaware of the specific needs of individual classrooms.
In August of 2004, Classroom Wishlist was created as a non-profit organization providing individuals, corporations and other organizations in the private sector a vehicle to identify and fill material needs of schools and other deserving entities.
