Mission and Programs
Mission
Crossroads Urban Center was founded in 1966 to assist and organize low-income, disabled, and minority Utahns to meet basic survival needs and to address essential issues affecting quality of life.
Programs
Crossroads is best known for operating Utah's busiest emergency food pantry, the Luisa E. Lema Emergency Food Pantry. Named in honor of a long time Crossroads staffer, this program assists over 65,000 men, women, and children each year. An emergency fund to help with bus tokens, gasoline, rent, utilities, and prescriptions is also available, as are referals to the Crossroads Thrift Store for free household items, blankets, and clothing. In addition, Crossroads runs the Community Food Co-Op of Utah, a monthly food purchasing co-operative with volunteer distribution teams throughout the Wasatch Front.

Results
Accomplishments for Fiscal Year Ending 12/31/2007
- Continued to operate Utah's busiest emergency food pantry near downtown Salt Lake City and a free/low cost thrift store on the west side of Salt Lake City. The food pantry serves thousands with food and other emergency services each year. The Thrift Store gives away 8 times as much as we sell, has the lowest prices in SLC, and provides over $16,000 worth of new shoes and clothing to children in need each year.
- Expanded the Community Food Co-Op of Utah, a monthly, volunteer driven food purchasing co-operative offering food at up to 50% off grocery store prices.
- Advocated and organized for public policy changes designed to expand affordable housing opportunities, provide tax equity for the working poor, and ensure access to the Food Stamp Program and other essential services for low income and hungry Utahns.
Objectives for Fiscal Year Beginning 01/01/2008
- Continue to provide vital emergency services for low income Utahns.
- Expand the Community Food Co-Op of Utah to sell over 3,000 food packages each month by December 2008.
- Continue to advocate for public policies that protect the working poor, disabled, and other low income Utahns.
Self Assessment
Crossroads has an active, volunteer Board of Directors that evaluates programs annually and on an ongoing basis in the context of a long range plan, which runs through 2009.
Chief Executive Profile
Glenn L. Bailey, Executive Director, has been working in community organizing and nonprofit management since 1982. Mr. Bailey has served at Crossroads for a total of 20 years, including 16 as executive director. He has also worked as a low income neighborhood organizer in Oklahoma City and Chicago.
Additional Comments
Crossroads Urban Center has long been a community resource center in Utah for the creation of new organizations to respond to unmet needs. This emphasis on "spinning off" new nonprofit efforts has kept our agency focused and effective.

Balance
Sheet: Fiscal Year Ending December 31, 2007
Notes
The
balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization
at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should
generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot long survive,
but the types of assets and liabilities also must be considered.
For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables,
securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities
(payables, deferred revenue, current year loan and note payments).
Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other
hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed
its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
