Self Assessment
The mission of WINNERS Lacrosse is for at-risk youth to learn lacrosse and gain increased educational opportunities at both the high school and college level through the sport. To evaluate our progress, we track the academic and athletic progress of each youth served by WINNERS Lacrosse in a database.
Further, our evaluation tools include structured, annual discussions and evaluations with each of our partners to plan improvements, solve problems and explore new opportunities. We find these sessions invaluable for improving and refining our programs as well as strengthening our partnerships. At the conclusion of individual programs, we informally interview participants and coaches for feedback. We are currently designing participant response forms tailored to evaluate each separate program as well.
Additional Comments
In seven years of operation, WINNERS has brought lacrosse to over 4,000 young people through partnerships with sixteen schools, community groups and recreation centers.
We believe that the discipline, learning, sportsmanship, teamwork, effort and problem solving taught by playing lacrosse serve to enrich young people's lives in other arenas and to open them to new opportunities they might not otherwise have.

Balance
Sheet: Fiscal Year Ending June 30, 2008
Notes
The
balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization
at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should
generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot long survive,
but the types of assets and liabilities also must be considered.
For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables,
securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities
(payables, deferred revenue, current year loan and note payments).
Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other
hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed
its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.

Comments from the organization
Our overhead and administrative costs are covered by special event fund-raising: a fall lacrosse classic and an annual golf tournament held every year in October.
Other fund-raising from foundations, corporations and individuals directly supports our program development and implementation. Most of our partners have very restricted resources for physical education and sports programs. Our ability to supplement their resources translates into more opportunities for the youth of the Washington D.C. area.
