Mission and Programs
Mission
To achieve a public school system in Virginia which consistently provides to all students with disabilities a free appropriate public education designed to meet their unique needs, to prepare them for employment and independent living, and to ensure that the rights of students with disabilities and their parents are protected.
Programs
SERVICES FOR ATTORNEYS A major focus of the LAC is the sponsorship of high quality, low cost attorney trainings specifically designed for Virginia practitioners. We hope to have each program approved by the Virginia State Bar's Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Department (MCLE) as well as the Virginia Supreme Court's Guardian ad litem program. SERVICES FOR PARENTS The LAC will also be a specilialized referral service for parents who have children with disabilities and are in need of legal services. Please contact us or visit our web site for additional information about our services.

Accomplishments for Fiscal Year Ending 12/31/2006
- The primary communication link among the LEGAL ADVOCACY CENTER, its supporters, and the public is its website. The site includes general information about the organization and its Board of Directors, and serves as the public?s access to the LEGAL
ADVOCACY CENTER?S issue booklets and attorney/advocate resource list. Because of the importance of the site to the LEGAL ADVOCACY CENTER?s programs and services, the organization made significant changes to the site to make it more user friendly and attractive.
Objectives for Fiscal Year Beginning 01/01/2007
- To provide families with information that will allow them to effectively represent their children's educational rights and interests.
- To develop the capacity of the private bar to provide expert legal representation in educational matters for students with disabilities.
- To support advocacy and legal interventions to ensure that local school divisions in Virginia provide effective educational services to students with disabilities.

Balance Sheet: Fiscal Year Ending December 31, 2001
Notes
The balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of
an organization at a particular point in time. An organization's
total assets should generally exceed its total liabilities,
or it cannot long survive, but the types of assets and liabilities
also must be considered. For instance, an organization's current
assets (cash, receivables, securities, etc.) should be sufficient
to cover its current liabilities (payables, deferred revenue,
current year loan and note payments). Otherwise, the organization
may face solvency problems. On the other hand, an organization
whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed its current liabilities
might not be putting its money to best use. |
