Mission and Programs
Mission
PetSmart Charities'' mission is to improve the quality of life for all companion animals by creating and supporting programs that save the lives of homeless pets and promote healthy relationships between people and pets. Our vision is "a lifelong, loving home for every pet."
Programs
Over the past 14 years, PetSmart Charities has provided funding in excess of $70 million to more than 3,700 nonprofit animal welfare organizations to help save the lives of homeless pets through adoptions(over 1,000 per day), spay/neuter programs (to prevent unwanted kittens and puppies), and retention programs (to keep pets in their adopted homes). PetSmart Charities also funds pilot tests of innovative, "best practices" programs which can be replicated nationwide. The Rescue Waggin' Program was created to help save the lives of homeless dogs and puppies through partnership and collaboration with local animal welfare agencies. The program also works to proactively reduce pet overpopulation in those areas of the country that need the most help. During times of natural disasters, our Emergency Relief Waggin' program provides funding to nonprofit animal welfare agencies to treat injured pets and provide food and supplies. We also provide assistance for rescues of abused and neglected animals from hoarders and "puppy mills."

Balance
Sheet: Fiscal Year Ending February 3, 2008
Notes
The
balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization
at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should
generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot long survive,
but the types of assets and liabilities also must be considered.
For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables,
securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities
(payables, deferred revenue, current year loan and note payments).
Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other
hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed
its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
