Mission and Programs
Mission
UJA-Federation of New York cares for those in need, rescues those in harm's way, and renews and strengthens the Jewish people in New York, in Israel, and around the world.
Programs
The world's largest local philanthropy, UJA-Federation of New York strengthens community and helps 1.4 million persons in New York City, Westchester County, and Long Island, as well as 3 million in Israel and 60 other countries. Funds raised by UJA-Federation sustain the activities of more than 100 health, social-service, educational, and community agencies. Every day, these community-based organizations provide a multitude of services that improve and enhance people's lives.
We care by building compassionate communities. Guided by the principles of chesed (kindness) and tikun olam (repairing the world), we assist the poor, the elderly, families in need, and special populations, providing social and humanitarian services both here in New York and around the world
Our renewal efforts are answering the call of Jews worldwide who seek to learn about their heritage. We support programs to make Jewish education more meaningful, to deepen Jewish identity, and to recruit and train dynamic professionals to serve the Jewish community. Through our initiatives, more individuals and families are embracing the power and joy of Jewish life.
From rescuing Jews in peril to supporting programs aimed at fostering tolerance and diversity, we connect Jewish communities worldwide, building a growing awareness of Klal Yisrael (the entire Jewish people). While we continue to provide aid to Jews in distress or under persecution, we are also devoted to strengthening and sustaining the many Jewish communities around the world.

Balance
Sheet: Fiscal Year Ending June 30, 2008
Notes
The
balance sheet gives a snapshot of the financial health of an organization
at a particular point in time. An organization's total assets should
generally exceed its total liabilities, or it cannot long survive,
but the types of assets and liabilities also must be considered.
For instance, an organization's current assets (cash, receivables,
securities, etc.) should be sufficient to cover its current liabilities
(payables, deferred revenue, current year loan and note payments).
Otherwise, the organization may face solvency problems. On the other
hand, an organization whose cash and equivalents greatly exceed
its current liabilities might not be putting its money to best use.
