Mission and Programs
Mission
AmeriCares is a nonprofit international disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization, which provides immediate response to emergency medical needs and supports long-term humanitarian assistance programs for people around the world, irrespective of race, creed or political persuasion.
Programs
AmeriCares delivers aid globally through three core activites: global programs, emergency response and its medical outreach porgram. In the US, AmeriCares provides basic medical services for the uninsured, refurbishes the homes of the financially and physically disadvantaged and gives a summer camp experience to inner-city children with HIV/AIDS.

Results
Accomplishments for Fiscal Year Ending 12/31/2007
- Since its founding in 1982, AmeriCares has delivered $7 billion in aid to people in need around the world.
- AmeriCares continues its efforts in the tsunami-affected regions in Sri Lanka and Indonesia. AmeriCares Tsunami Relief Program is addressing some of the most pressing issues of the recovery effort, including health care, education, water supply/sanitation needs and livelihood issues.
- AmeriCares has been sending medicines and medical supplies directly into Darfur since 2004.
Objectives for Fiscal Year Beginning 01/01/2008
- As AmeriCares seeks to increase the donation of pharmaceuticals to meet health service needs in the developing world, we will be expanding our partnerships with pharmaceutical companies to include major manufacturers outside the United States.
Self Assessment
AmeriCares tracks its effectiveness through (1) weekly Executive Committee meetings and monthly Advisory Board meetings where all AmeriCares activities are evaluated (2) Consistent feedback from health and government officials in the countries in which we support (3) Ongoing evaluation from AmeriCares field staff regarding the accurate and timely distribution of relief materials.
Chief Executive Profile
Curtis R. Welling joined AmeriCares as President and CEO in 2002. Since that time, he has guided the organization in delivering nearly $4 billion in medicines and supplies around the world, enabling more people to live longer, healthier lives. Welling brings to AmeriCares an extensive career in the investment banking and securities industry with firms such as SG Cowen, Bear Stearns and Credit Suisse First Boston. Welling currently serves on the Boards of Coca-Cola Enterprises (NYSE: CCE), The Nelson A. Rockefeller Center for Public Policy at Dartmouth College and Vice Chair of The Adirondack Council and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Previously, he served as Board Chair of Spence Chapin Services and was the founding Board Chair of the Donaldson Adoption Institute. He received both his Master’s of Business Administration and Bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College, and his law degree from Vanderbilt University Law School.
